In this article we cover some of the most useful Logic Pro shortcuts so you can work faster and more efficiently.

Logic has its own built-in cheat sheet to tell you every single shortcut in the program. We are going to dig into shortcuts that are specific to Logic Pro so before we even hop into the more advanced Logic Pro key commands, make sure you know these basic commands on mac:.

This will open up a library of every single key command available to you in the software. The Click Track in Logic pro sits at the top of your session on the main window page.

This plays and stops your session. Another tool that I use all the time is the trim tool. This key command separates the regions in logic allowing you to move, edit, and process each section of your region individually.

I use this command on almost every track I record and nearly every sample I bring into my session. Logic has a great feature that allows you to hide certain tracks from the main window view. You can use this when you have certain tracks that you don’t want to view during any part of your workflow. A great example would be when comping a vocal track in logic, you may want to keep some previous vocal takes that you didn’t use. You can just mute and hide those unused tracks that you may want later.

The mix window is useful when working with different plugins on your tracks and is used frequently when working with auxiliary tracks and the stereo output. This key command allows you to pull audio files from your computer into the logic session as well as view and adjust any audio files that are already in your session. As a highly used key command, Muting your tracks is essential to anyone’s key command repertoire.

Everyone can have an instrument that they aren’t quite sure if it fits in with the verse. Here’s a way: use folders. Try this on for size, starting with an empty song so you can get the hang of it:.

Nice one. I love folders and I never thought of that before. Ski, as a bonus, you just gave me a way of moving groups of tracks from one part of the arrange to the other!

I will still have to delete the old duplicate tracks left behind but that’s easy. I think this will be waaaay less fiddly than moving one track at a time. And it works great for duplicate tracks too, like where you have 8 tracks of guitar on the same track object and you want to move them all at once.

Choose the amount to shorten or lengthen the region from the Length Factor pop-up menu, then click OK. Option-drag the region. Paste multiple copies of a region In Logic Pro, select the region.

This energy is vital for us to create quickly and easily. Once you have created a track that you are happy with and would like to duplicate it is simply a case of clicking on a single button and that will create a new track with duplicate settings. This will create a new track with duplicate settings. There you have it. I can now switch between the arrangement in Screen 3 and the one in Screen 4 using the Track Alternative drop-down on any track. Track Alternatives can be used to great effect when collaborating with other musicians. For example, if you have a composition that you want to let someone else work on, you can assign all of the tracks to Track Alternatives, then duplicate the entire arrangement to Track Alternative B and then give your collaborator the freedom to change any aspect of the arrangement.

This is great fun knowing that you can easily return any element in the arrange window back to how you had it before by switching that track to Track Alternative A. Just bear in mind that Track Alternatives do not save Channel Strip settings and any track-based automation will affect all Track Alternatives. Region-based automation, on the other hand, is saved per alternative. One of the things that can make collaboration difficult is the tension between wanting to experiment more but not wanting to let go of the ideas that occurred early on in a session.

Track Alternatives really helps free up those administrative worries so you can focus on being creative. This command only works for timestamped audio files, such as those recorded in the current project, and imported Broadcast Wave or SDII files. Timestamped files are indicated by a clock symbol in the Project Audio Browser. The regions are moved to the selected track, keeping their existing time positions.

You can access Logic Pro key commands in the Key Commands window. If you initially move a region left or right, movement is limited to the horizontal axis.
